Proud to support OPAL Services

Chester & Maelor NFU Mutual Agency recently asked its’ farming members for nominations with a local charity to support through the NFU Mutual’s national £1.92 million ‘Agency Giving Fund’.

The Fund forms part of NFU Mutual’s pledge to support charities during 2023. To find out more, please visit The NFU Mutual Agency Giving Fund.

Agent, Stuart Chacksfield commented, “Following a direct nomination from one of our farmers, our Agency put forward OPAL Services, based in the new Kelsall Wellness Centre, to receive a donation of £6,379 from the Fund, which we topped up to £7,000, to help deliver their important work. We were delighted to meet Geoff from the charity to hand over the donation cheque and at the same time, also met some of the local community who benefit from the work they do, which on the day included some of our lovely retired NFU Mutual customers, which was a lovely surprise”.

Geoff from Opal Services commented on the work they carry out and how donations like this assist in their work, “OPAL stands for Older People Active Lives and we support older people and their carers living in rural West Cheshire with a focus on the prevention of social isolation and loneliness. Our team, who are mostly volunteers, are brilliant at organising a wide range of events to bring in much needed funding and we are fortunate to benefit from a number of charitable donors. However, the £7,000 from NFU Mutual is the largest single donation we’ve had this year and this amazing sum of money will go a long way towards supporting our services which include; day clubs and activity groups, some telephone befriending, a good neighbour scheme, carer support groups including carer breaks, and a service that seeks to get older people feeling confident and competent in using communication technology and in being able to access what is an increasingly digital world.”
