Considering an Apprenticeship?

Rachel is studying a BA (Hons) Business Management degree at the University of South Wales, whilst working as a business development executive at NFU Mutual Bridgend and  Swansea agency.

“I wanted to share my personal experiences as an apprentice at NFU Mutual Bridgend and Swansea agency. I can’t emphasise enough what a great opportunity this has been and hopefully, it will inspire others to consider an apprenticeship as a route to develop their career.

I currently work as a Business Development Executive at the agency. My role within the agency looks to support our Sales Team by networking, marketing and building customer relationships through identifying emerging insurance market trends and providing sector specific knowledge.

In September, I will be entering my fourth year of study at USW, where the course challenges me to think critically regarding theories and frameworks relating to business management. In addition to achieving my degree, as a graduate I will also achieve a CMI Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management taking me one step closer to Chartered Manager status.

Leaving education and jumping into the world of work can be extremely daunting, my apprenticeship has allowed me to put theory into practise, which has enhanced my development by giving me confidence in my own ability.

During my time thus far with NFU Mutual, I have been given some invaluable opportunities to develop not only my personal skills but develop within the business. For example, creating the 12-month marketing plan, leading the agency’s social media strategy, attending new business appointments and networking events.

I’ve had endless support from the team, who have helped me balance my work load alongside my apprenticeship studies. They’re always on hand to help with any queries and give constructive feedback, pushing me to be the best version of myself.

The opportunity to work with NFU Mutual has given me the experience to allow me to develop within a supportive, driven and friendly team. Thanks to the apprenticeship program, I will have the desired outcome of a degree in business and management and 5 years’ worth of industry knowledge, setting me in good stead for my future!”
